About BTV

Brown University Student Television (BTV) is Brown’s only student-run film and digital media production group. Founded in 1987 by Doug Liman ‘88 (Director/Producer “The Bourne Identity”, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and David Bartis ‘88 (former Senior Vice President of Primetime Series at NBC) among others as a TV station on Brown's analog cable network, BTV has since grown and evolved into a digital-age production studio and distribution platform, producing Brown's finest web shows and short films, and helping train the next generation of Brunonians in the entertainment industry.

For the past 24 years, BTV has provided students with the unique opportunity to gain hands on experience in film and television management and production. At BTV, we offer students the opportunity to write, direct, produce, edit, and star in their own films and web shows.  From live news, to sci fi, to event videography, to digital art, BTV is committed to nourishing and promoting the best of Brown student work.

Mission

BTV’s mission is to provide practical, pre-professional opportunities for Brown students interested in the television and film industry, worldwide exposure for Brown University talent, and quality entertainment for anyone who needs a study break. We welcome students of all interests, talents, and levels of experience.

Platform

In response to the decline of Brown's close circuit cable network, BTV evolved into a web-based media organization. We produce on-demand web shows, short films, and live webcasts, and have active blogs, podcasts, and an affiliate media website, maingreen.tv. You can watch all our live and on-demand content right here at browntv.org, and some repeats can also be seen on Brown's IPTV.

Services

In addition to its own media projects, BTV offers media services to the Brown community as well as to local companies/organizations. Services vary from the graphic design of posters to creating high-quality, edited videos of events. Overall, BTV functions as a knowledgeable and reliable media source within the Brown community, willing to aid anyone interested in media production.
