So you want to work on a BTV show or short film? Great! Just fill out the application below. Here's a description of some of the roles available:
Director - the director is the ultimate artistic mind behind the film, and is in charge of the entire process from pre-production to post-production. Those applying to direct should have substantial experience with and knowledge of the film-making process.
Assistant Director - an assistant director (AD) helps the director plan and run the production, including casting, rehearsals, logistics, and on set. This is a good position for someone looking to transition from theater directing to film directing, or someone with minimal film experience interested in directing.
Producer - a producer is the film's organizer-in-chief, handling the logistics of the production process, including securing locations, actors, and crew, managing budgets and fundraising, and helping the director make the important creative decisions about the film. A good position for someone with minimal film experience but good organizational skills.
Director of Photography - the DP (also known as cinematographer) is in charge of camera set-up and lighting for the film, working with the director to create the look of the film and executing the director's vision with the help of the crew. The DP is generally also the primary camera operator for the film. Substantial artistic and technical knowledge of film or photography is needed for this position.
Editor - the editor assembles the final film by cutting together the raw footage using editing software.Knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or other professional editing software is needed, although those with interest but without the needed experience can act as assistant editors.
Sound Designer - the sound designer assembles the film's soundtrack, mixing the sound recorded on set, recording additonal dialogue and effects as needed, and adding music and sound effects. A good position for someone with experience in music or other audio production. Knowledge of professional sound software such as Pro Tools or Logic is preferred.
Grip/PA - grips and production assistants help out on set, doing things like rigging the lighting, running the sound recording, acting as a camera assistant, logging footage, and shooting behind-the-scenes video. They may also do things like location scouting, running lines with actors, and managing props of costumes. This is a great place for people who have no film experience and want to learn the ropes.
